Addiction is a treatable illness and effective treatment is best delivered with a multi-disciplinary team. Nursing is a vital part of that team and we believe that you deserve quality nursing 24 hours a day. Nova Vida’s nursing team comes with years’ of experience in both general nursing, psychiatric care and addictions. The team provides 24-hour nursing cover as well as being skilled at helping patients during difficult periods during their stay. They are usually there at the airport waiting your arrival and often see you off on departure. They always accompany patients on any visits away from the clinic whether it is for Equine therapy or a walk on the beach. They offer the continuity of care and the safety you deserve during your stay and they act as the bridge between the patient and the doctor or psychiatrist. Our Nursing team originate from a number of different countries and offer an array of languages which can be helpful in the early days for our international clients as they find their feet with the language of the Centre, English. Currently between them they speak English, Dutch, German and Portuguese. They are all fully qualified, experienced and registered with the appropriate authorities.
After the first few days patient’s are generally not in need of 24 hour nursing care but it is reassuring to know that it is on hand should it be needed. The nursing team also fill another role which some might say is more important than taking your temperature or offering a pill. They offer continuity of care; a familiar face; someone who is going to listen to you in a non-judgement way; someone to make you a cup of tea and chat with you on the nights when sleep seems to be difficult.
The Nurses are aided in their work by an enthusiastic team of Health Care Assistants. Their role is patient centred. They are there to assist the nursing team and to ensure that every patient’s stay is as comfortable as possible. They often drive you to the gym or to Equine Therapy or pop out to the local shop to buy you that essential item that you need. They are there for you – to keep you safe and to ensure you are comfortable during your stay.
